About

Objective of this practical

Welcome everybody! My name is Adrian and I am doing this advanced practical to built onto my already finished Master's thesis under the supervision of Dr. Susanne Krömker.

I am currently a student at the University of Heidelberg, where I am studying Computer Science. My main areas of interest are visualization, machine learning and theoretical computer science. Additionally, I have a background in geoscience (with focus on paleontology and mineralogy). My personal interests outside of academia are mostly related to math, philosophy, psychology and science in general.

During my thesis I worked with a family of cellular automata called Lenia, which will be briefly described on this page as well. In the process I obtained several sets of volumetric data describing so called 'artificial life forms'. While I only used these datasets for visualization purposes in my thesis, the objective of this practical is to apply methods of topological data analysis (TDA) for further study and insight into those peculiar structures.

If anyone is interested in discussing the work presented, feel free to reach out. You can contact me via Email.
